All aboard the vaccine van for the ‘big walk-in weekend’

As Dudley borough continues on the road map to normality, a special vaccine van offering walk in appointments is in Brierley Hill this week.

All adults in the UK are now eligible for their vaccine and many younger adults are being called up for their first dose for the first time, as part of the regions ‘big walk-in weekend’.

The vaccine bus is in Moor Street centre carpark today and tomorrow (Thursday 24 and Friday 25 June) from 12pm to 8pm and Saturday 26 June from 9am to 5pm.

Vaccines are available on the van to any adult who is yet to receive their first vaccine. Those with questions about the vaccine can have a no-obligation chat to the qualified health professionals who will be working there.

A number of other locations across the borough are offering walk in appointments for over 18s to get their first or second vaccine. This includes Tipton Sports Academy, where vaccines are offered from 8am to 6pm on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

People do not need to be registered with a GP in order to join the walk-in sessions and older adults who have not yet taken up the offer of a vaccine are especially encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity.

Drop-in appointments are also available at Chapel Street Community Centre in Lye on Wednesday 30 June from 1 to 5pm and at Halesowen Cultural Centre on Highfield Lane, every Thursday until 8 July from 9.30am to 5.30pm.

Councillor Nicolas Barlow, cabinet member for health and adult social care, said:

I would urge anyone not yet vaccinated who lives in the area to take advantage of these walk-in appointments.
Getting vaccinated is one of the most important yet simple things we can do to protect our own health as well as our friends, relatives and communities.
We know vaccines are extremely safe and, as they are our best way to continue on the government’s road map to normal life, we need every adult old and young to get theirs now.
Anyone displaying covid-19 symptoms should isolate and seek a test. Anyone who has tested positive for Covid-19 should follow NHS guidance and should not have their vaccine until 28 days after testing positive.
