Be bright and be seen as darker nights draw in
As the darker nights draw in, Dudley Council is urging road users and pedestrians to ‘Be Bright and Be Seen.’
People are encouraged to wear brightly coloured or fluorescent clothing that shows up well in both daylight and after dusk. Even small reflective items, such as armbands and stickers, can help make people more visible when lights shine on them.
Cyclists are reminded it is a legal requirement to have clean and working lights at night, as well as a rear reflector. Pedestrians should always follow the Green Cross Code, use safer places to cross wherever possible and choose well-lit routes when they are out after dark.
The Road Safety Team provides road safety sessions in all primary school settings in Dudley and offers a range of other services, including cycle training.
Jim Deakin, director of neighbourhoods, said:
“It is important that everyone takes simple steps to make sure they can be seen during the darker nights.
“Wearing bright or reflective clothing, using working lights when cycling and choosing well-lit places to cross can all help people to be more visible.
“I would encourage pedestrians, cyclists and all road users to take extra care and remember to be bright and be seen.”
