Boost in support for carers

Support for unpaid carers across Dudley borough has been given a boost as Dudley Council confirms new partnership with Forward Carers.

The council has commissioned the social enterprise company to provide carer services for the next three years to complement those already offered by the council, including the carers hubs.

Under the new arrangement, Forward Carers will provide personalised, face to face preventative support tailored to the needs of adult carers and young carers.

It will offer a range of workshops and training sessions on essential topics such as legal rights, stress management as well as community peer support groups to share experiences, gain peer support and build strong networks.

Forward Carers will also work with Action for Children to develop and deliver a young carers service, which will include direct support groups, educational workshops, and recreational activities designed to foster growth, resilience, and wellbeing among young carers.

Councillor Andrea Goddard, cabinet member for adult social care, said:

The wellbeing of carers and the people they care for are as important in equal measure.

With an estimated 32,000 unpaid carers in our borough, who care tirelessly for their loved ones or friends, we must ensure they have the advice and support they need.

We look forward to working with Forward Carers to extend the offer of support available and to complement existing services within Dudley borough.

Simon Fenton, CEO of Forward Carers, said:

Our commitment to supporting carers is stronger than ever. With these new services, we aim to make a significant positive impact on the lives of carers in Dudley.

We are particularly excited about our partnership with Action for Children, which will enhance our support for young carers. We look forward to working closely with Dudley Council and all our stakeholders to ensure the success of these programmes.
