Borough spring clean-up
Residents across the borough are being thanked for their support in keeping the borough clean and green, as Dudley Council undertakes its spring and summer spruce up.
The council is responsible for the maintenance of more than 700 miles of roads and pavement, with work to keep the borough tidy totalling more than 500 hours every week, during the growing season.
A large network of grass areas, located on verges, traffic islands, public footpaths, parks, open spaces and a network of housing properties, with communal grassed areas, will be cut once a month during the growing season.
The team undertakes an intensive programme of weed treatment to keep roads, footpaths, parks and play areas safe, clear, and tidy.
Last year, the council invested in a weed ripper arm for one of its small footway sweepers. Following a trial showing it was effective in weed removal, it has now invested in larger, robust sweeper brushes for its four large road sweeping vehicles that will be in use later this month and throughout the summer.
Councillor Damian Corfield, cabinet member for Highways and Environment, said:
“Dudley Council cuts more than 200 miles of grass during the spring, summer, and early autumn months to help keep our borough roads, parks, and council homes safe and accessible.
“Dudley is extremely lucky to have a large network of volunteers and support groups, who take part in vital activities such as litter picking and localised community gardening and maintenance schemes.
“These amazing groups play a significant part in our ongoing work to keep the borough clean and tidy, in these challenging financial times.
“As the sunny springtime weather continues across Dudley borough, we will continue with a huge programme of weed treatment and grass cutting and have now given three-quarters of our grass areas their first cut of the growing season.”
