Plant growing in hand

Borough to bloom with £300k pledge

Dudley Council has pledged to spend £300,000 on bulbs, planters and floral displays over the next three years with a focus on giving the environment a helping hand.

The authority will create a number of new pictorial meadows next year, with the attractive wild grass and flower areas set to support local wildlife.

Subsequent years will be used to spruce up the borough, adding to the attractiveness of parks, towns and local centres across the area. There will be new hanging baskets and some shrub beds will be replaced or rejuvenated.

The council has also pledged to work with the many strong volunteer-led groups including Friends groups and those taking part in the ‘In-Bloom’ displays.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for public realm, said:

We are very proud to announce our three-year plan for planting, which will help to make our borough attractive to visitors while supporting local wildlife and playing a part in the fight against climate change.
Our pictorial meadows will build on the work we have already started on rewilding, creating beautiful green spaces that will act as green-corridors for our plants and wildlife including birds, bees and butterflies.
The budget will also focus on supporting our amazing voluntary groups, who put an incredible amount of work into our towns, parks and green spaces.
