Brierley Hill goes green
Brierley Hill will set the stage for a series of eco community events this month, as part of a national campaign to tackle climate change and protect nature.
The free ‘Great Big Green Week’ events will take place from Saturday 10 to Sunday 18 June at St Michael’s Church, Hawbush Community Gardens and Market Hall.
An eco-fashion show will be one of the first events on Saturday 10 June, 11.30am to 12.30pm, with local students showcasing purchases from the town centre’s charity shops, at Dudley College.
Little ones and their parents or carers can enjoy a nature toddler play group on Thursday 15 June, 10 to 11.30am at The Storehouse on Albion Street.
On Sunday 18 June there will be woodland workshops from 2 to 4pm at Hawbush Community Gardens followed by an evening open mic social event at the Brierley Hill Market Hall from 5 to 7pm.
The events are organised by the Brierley Hill Cultural Consortium in conjunction with Ekho Collective and are funded through the Brierley Hill High Street Heritage Action Zone project, which has seen improvements to the war memorial and historic buildings on the high street.

Councillor Paul Bradley, Deputy Leader, Communities and Economic Delivery, said:
We want everyone to shop local and support Brierley Hill and it’s great to see events like this bringing people together in and around the high street.
We are undertaking a multi-million-pound regeneration programme in Brierley Hill town centre, improving transport links and creating an attractive town centre with new paving and seating, planters and trees.
While this work is underway, the town is still very much open for business with free two-hour parking available at the four council car parks in the centre.
Frank Chamberlain, Brierley Hill Cultural Consortium project coordinator, said:
As part of the Brierley Hill Community Forum, we are incredibly proud to be part of this huge project in conjunction with Dudley Council and with funding from Historic England’s Heritage Action Zone.
The Ekho Collective team have not only gone above and beyond to create over a week of sustainable and interactive green events; they have also helped to strengthen and grow the Brierley Hill in Bloom high street project.
We look forward to attending and enjoying all of the events alongside our local communities.
