Library books

Brilliant books come to the Black Country

Celebrated author Will Mabbitt will be touring libraries this summer with his action-packed, children’s book, ‘The Unlikely Adventures of Mabel Jones’.

The story – which is aimed at kids aged 7 – 11 - is a fantastic, swashbuckling tale of pirates who sail the seas on a ship entitled, ‘The Feroshus Maggot’.

Mabbitt will be hosting a number of free events in Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton libraries in August, offering fun, interactive games based on his book and tips on creative writing.

He’ll be at Stourbridge Library on Tuesday 1 August from 1-2pm.

Councillor Ian Bevan, cabinet member responsible for libraries, said:
This is our second children’s author visit of the summer and we’ve another two planned. Getting to meet a real live children’s author is a big deal to a lot of youngsters, they can see where they get their creative ideas from and hopefully be inspired to pick up a book or even a pen and paper to start a story of their own.
Stephanie Rhoden, Partnership Manager in the region, comments,
We’re thrilled that Will is coming to Dudley libraries. He’s a fantastic storyteller who is sure to inspire local children to keep reading – and to perhaps one-day write their own bestsellers!

He’ll also be at Sandwell Central Library on Tuesday 1 August from 10.30-11.30am, Walsall Libraries Central Library & Archives on Wednesday 2 August from 10.30-11.30am and Wolverhampton Central Library on Wednesday 2 August from 1-2pm. For more details visit www.blackcountryreads.org.uk

The initiative is part of the Black Country Reads project which is being run by national charity The Literacy Trust. It also ties in with the Summer Reading Challenge and The World of Stories project.
