Budget consultation now live
People can help shape future decisions around Dudley Council’s budget by having their say in a six-week consultation.
Like all local authorities, Dudley is coming up to the important budget setting period and is asking Dudley residents, businesses and organisations, to have their say on how that money should be spent.
The council has a budget shortfall of around £35 million next year to be able to set a legal, balanced budget, which means that tough decisions will need to be taken, while working hard to maintain essential services.
People are being asked on how they would prioritise spending on different council services and different options for making or saving money by potentially charging for or reducing some council services.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said:
“These are unprecedented times where the council is facing a significant challenge to produce a balanced, sustainable budget.
“We are doing all we can to work efficiently, increase income and deliver essential services. That will be a challenge and there will have to be some very difficult decisions to make, but I am confident we can steer Dudley out of this.”
Councillor Steve Clark, cabinet member for finance, added:
“This consultation allows local people to input to the process and let us know their spending priorities. Listening to local people is absolutely crucial in being able to understand their priorities and how that fits in with the financial challenges of limited budgets we have.
“I’d encourage everyone to take part in the survey. It only takes a few minutes to complete and your feedback is invaluable.”
The consultation opens on 11 November and runs until December 20. There is a direct link to the survey on the council’s homepage.
