Call to share activities to tackle loneliness

Local groups and organisations across Dudley borough are invited to publicise what they do and share ideas on how to stay connected and tackle loneliness at a virtual event next month.

Dudley Council has teamed up with Dudley Mind, Just Straight Talk and Integrated Plus to organise the event to help people discover local activities, organisations and support services.

The event is to help anyone who feels lonely and isolated and struggles to make social connections in their local communities. It is also open to anyone who is interested to find out what activities exist local to them.

The Stay Connected wellbeing virtual event will be held on Tuesday June 29 from 6 to 8pm and on Thursday July 1 from noon to 2pm.

The event will act as an informal drop-in session where people can tune in to find out more. It is hoped the meeting will help people make connections and improve their mental health and wellbeing.

Any individual, group or organisation offering local activities, or delivering a project or a service, designed to improve people’s mental health and wellbeing and social connections with others, are encouraged to take part.

Councillor Nicolas Barlow, cabinet member for health and adult social care, said:

This is an event for anyone who feels lonely or disconnected with the outside world, feelings which I’m sure have been exacerbated during the pandemic for many of us.
I’m pleased this event will bring people together and help them access activities to support them to feel and stay connected.

Dudley Mind is one the Mayor of Dudley’s chosen charities for the year ahead. More information about this can be found here - https://www.mayorofdudley.org.uk/welcome
