Cllr Nicolas Barlow

Calling all would be COVID Community Champions

A call is going out for people to volunteer to help spread up to date information, offer advice and act as COVID Community Champions in their local area.

Dudley Council is looking to recruit individuals able to reach their local community - including family, neighbours, friends and colleagues - to relay the most up to date information relating to coronavirus.

The aim behind establishing community champions is to ensure everyone receives consistent information, allowing individuals to make informed decisions about the virus, how best to tackle it and dismiss myths.

Councillor Nicolas Barlow, cabinet member for health and adult social care, said:

During this pandemic it has been amazing how people have helped each other, and we want to assist anyone who wants to continue to do so.
We have worked hard as an authority to get as much information out into the borough as possible during this outbreak and working with community advocates enables us to get our message out further using a trusted source.
There are so many incorrect myths out there, restrictions are regularly changing and the amount of information about guidance can be overwhelming for some people. COVID Community Champions are at the forefront, helping and representing their area.
Please ensure your neighbourhood has its own advocate – namely you! You will make a massive difference and help to protect lives.

No prior volunteering experience is required, and applications are invited from anyone living or working in the borough.  Applicants need to be genuinely interested in helping and assisting their community and can dedicate as much time to the initiative as they want.
