Cemeteries open over the Bank Holiday weekend

Dudley, Dudley New, Stourbridge, Gornal Wood, Lye and Wollescote, Cradley, Halesowen and Brierley Hill cemeteries will continue to open for people to pay their respects and remember friends and loved ones during the Bank Holiday (Friday 8 May to Sunday May 10).

Dudley Council however is urging people to follow the government’s social distancing guidelines by keeping two metres away from others during their visit.

The council will be carrying out funeral services on the Bank Holiday, Friday May 8. People are reminded that only 10 mourners from the deceased’s immediate family should attend a funeral.

Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member responsible for bereavement services, said:

In line with government guidelines our cemeteries are open as usual for people to come and pay their respects to friends and loved ones.

If you do plan to visit it’s really important you follow social distancing guidelines to help protect you and others.

We understand these are incredibly difficult times and even more so for those who have sadly lost friends or loved ones during the crisis.

Regrettably we have had to limit the number of mourners who attend funerals in the borough, this is to support the national effort and limit the spread of infection. This way we can help protect the NHS and importantly save lives.
