Christmas changes to opening times for council services

Borough residents are urged to check when council services are running due to changes during the Christmas holidays.

Emergency frontline services will continue during the festive break.

Some bin collections are being moved with a full list of changes available on the council website. The Household Waste and Recycling Centre in Stourbridge will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of the council, said:

“We will continue to be here for our residents over Christmas, especially people who are elderly and vulnerable. The emergency frontline services that people depend on will still be available.

“Some services may have alternative or reduced opening hours, so I encourage residents to check before they visit our libraries, leisure centres and other venues.”

Dudley Council Plus customer service phone lines will be closed from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day and on New Year’s Day. They will be taking calls as normal from 8.30am to 5pm on December 29, 30 and 31. Self-serve online services will be accessible throughout the festive period on MyDudley.

The council’s repairs management centre is also closed from December 24 to 26 and on January 1. It is open from 8am to 5pm on December 29, 30 and 31, with an out of hours service from 5pm to 7pm on those weekdays and from 8am to 7pm on the weekend of December 27 and 28. As usual, an emergency repairs service is offered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Duncan Edwards, Crystal and Halesowen leisure centres are closed from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day, as well as on New Year’s Day. The centres are open as normal on December 27 and 28, but will close earlier on December 29, 30 and 31. See www.dbleisure.co.uk/openinghours for more details.

All libraries in the borough will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. They will be open on December 27 and December 28, and closed from December 29 to New Year’s Day before reopening as normal on January 2.

Dudley Register Office at Priory Hall will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. It will be open from December 27 to December 31 for urgent appointments and closed on New Year’s Day, before normal service is resumed from January 2.

Stourbridge Register Office, based in the Thomas Robinson building in Cemetery Road, Lye, is closed from Christmas Eve to January 5.

The Red House Glass Cone in Wordsley closes at 3pm on December 23 and will reopen at 10am on January 2.

Dudley Museum and Archives in Tipton Road is open on December 23 and December 27. It is closed all other days over the festive period until reopening for normal business from January 2.

The café at Himley Hall will be closed from December 23 to December 28, and is also shut on New Year’s Day. It is open from 10am to 2pm on December 29, 30 and 31, before normal opening times resume from January 2.

Queen Cross Network and the Crystal Gateway will be closed from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day, and also on New Year’s Day.

The Brett Young Carers Hub is closed from Christmas Eve to December 28, and on New Year’s Day. It is open from 9am to 5pm on December 29, 30 and 31.

Gornal and Stourbridge cemeteries and grounds are open from 9am to 4.30pm over the Christmas period. The book of remembrance and flower rooms are open from 9am to 4pm.

The borough crematoria and offices will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
