pride in place programme-2

Community groups urged to submit bids before deadline

Community groups have just three weeks left to bid for grants of up to £20,000 to deliver projects to make a difference to their local communities in a defined area of Dudley.

Dudley is to benefit from £20 million of investment over the next 10 years through the government’s Pride in Place Programme.

The funding will support improvements in areas from Priory to Dudley Wood, including Netherton and Dudley town centres. Key priorities include improving public spaces and local heritage, reducing crime and improving safety, supporting young people and families, strengthening community spirit

The fund is managed by Dudley Neighbourhood Board and as part of its year one priorities, it has launched a Community Grants Fund.

Local groups can apply for grants of up to £20,000 to deliver projects that make a difference in their area and which contribute to the aims of the Pride in Place programme.

Applications are welcome across all programme themes, with priority given to projects supporting the locally identified key priorities. These include improving public spaces, buildings and heritage, supporting safety and crime reduction, enhancing education, family support and youth opportunities, and strengthening community cohesion.

Details about the fund, the eligibility criteria and how to apply is available on the Regenerating Dudley website. Applications close on July 3 at 5pm.

Councillor Paul Bradley, deputy leader of Dudley Council, said:

“Pride in Place is a huge boost for our neighbourhoods and we are keen for community groups to make the most of this opportunity to deliver a lasting impact.

“These projects will deliver long term improvements that are shaped by the people who know their local area best.

“I would encourage any groups looking to deliver projects within the programme area to look on the Regenerating Dudley website to find out more, check they are eligible and apply.”

The Dudley Neighbourhood Board is leading the programme and has representatives from community groups, politicians, the police, education, visitor attractions and businesses operating in the area and is supported by Dudley Council.”

Neil Thomas, chair of the Dudley Neighbourhood Board, said:

As a Board we are thrilled to be launching this first round of community grants as part of the Pride in Place programme.

“Many local residents supported us in putting together our application and plan for this fund, so the Board were keen to make sure that community groups were the first to benefit as the funding becomes available.

“This is just the first opportunity to access this funding.

“We will be releasing further opportunities to apply for funding throughout the 10 years that this programme is running. Please keep an eye on our website for details of future grants.

“Until then we can’t wait to see applications for this first round and we look forward to seeing this having an impact in our neighbourhoods soon. “
