Gig Caritas Frank Sinatra

Community orchestra performing charity concerts

A community orchestra which has raised more than £70,000 for local charities is putting on two shows to raise more cash in the coming months.

Gig Caritas will be at Stourbridge Town Hall with shows in October and November.

And another local organisation, In Sound Company Community Choir, is performing a special Christmas show in December.

On Sunday October 13 at 3pm Gig Caritas is performing Classical Chills, a concert of orchestral music highlighting the work of Antonin Dvořák alongside highly-regarded soloist Irena Josifoska.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to Riverside House in Stourbridge, which is being repurposed into a health and wellbeing centre for the community.

On Sunday November 24, also at 3pm, the Gig Caritas Big Band will perform Moonlight Sinatra under the direction of Edward Roberts-Malpass.

It will feature an afternoon of big band swing music, paying tribute to the legendary ‘Ol Blue Eyes himself.

Proceeds will be donated to the local branch of Sands, a charity which supports those affected by the death of a baby.

On Monday December 9 at 7.30pm, In Sound Company Community Choir presents A Christmas Cracker with Amblecote Primary School Choir as special guests.

The choir will be performing a wide range of festive music from around the world, both traditional and modern.

Kelly Martin, venue manager for Stourbridge Town Hall, said:

“We are really looking forward to hosting these three wonderful concerts this autumn and winter.

“The performers in these groups give their time for no fee, happy to help other people who need it by entertaining others.

“Tickets are still available, so if you want a great night out while supporting very worthy causes, get yourself along to one or more of the concerts.”

Keith Horsfall, chair of Gig Caritas and Black Country Radio, said:

“Stourbridge Town Hall is the perfect setting for three wonderful concerts this autumn.

“For classical music lovers, Gig Caritas is presenting a concert of Dvorak's hugely popular pieces - the New World Symphony and his cello concerto with international superstar cellist Irena Josifoska.

“Big band fans are catered for with the Gig Caritas production of  'Moonlight Sinatra' - which says it all as the clue is the title!

“And In Sound Company's 'Christmas Cracker' is the perfect start to the festive period.

“Three great events, all produced locally, showing Stourbridge Town Hall at its best.”

Tickets are available for all three shows at www.boroughhalls.co.uk, or by calling the box office on (01384) 812812.
