Cone re-opens to public following £1.5 million restoration

The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Hilary Bills, was among those in attendance on Saturday where a Christmas craft fair took place as part of the reopening event.

The Dudley Council run site in Wordsley has undergone a £1.5 million restoration over the last 12 months, with partial closures while essential but sensitive work has been carried out.

Councillor Hilary Bills, Mayor of Dudley, said:

“It was an honour to officially re-open the Cone on Saturday, and the turnout reflects how important it is as an attraction to people in the borough.

“The programme of works will ensure this precious site is protected and conserved for future generations to enjoy.”

The annual Christmas Tree Festival also began over the weekend and people can take part in the Christmas trail, which runs until December 21. The first 150 children who complete the trail will receive a keepsake glass token, made on site by resident artist Bethany Wood.
