Lutley Mill

Consultation on conservation areas

Dudley residents are asked to comment on the future and expansion of two of the borough’s conservation areas.

Conservation areas protect the special heritage and architectural aspects of a place.

In accordance with best practice provided by Historic England, draft Conservation Area Character Appraisals have been prepared for Lutley Mill and the Coppice Conservation Areas and the public is being consulted on them.

The draft appraisals propose to extend the Lutley Mill in Halesowen and the Coppice in Sedgley.

The Coppice Conservation Area was first designated in January 1970 and the Lutley Mill Conservation Area in 1975.

Both areas were recognised as being an area of ‘special architectural and historic interest, the character and appearance of which is considered desirable to preserve and enhance’

Councillor Simon Phipps, cabinet member for Regeneration and Enterprise said:

As an authority, we understand how important conservation areas are, as they help to protect our heritage for future generations. Having an up-to-date Conservation Area Character Appraisal in place is an important way to help preserve and enhance the character and appearance of these areas.
We want anyone living, or working, in the areas to get involved in this consultation to ensure the unique features making these areas so special are protected.
We understand that residents may want to know how this could impact them, and that is why I want to urge people to take part in our consultation.

Dudley Council is writing to all residents within the existing and proposed conservation areas asking them to take part in consultation exercise.

The aim is to gather everyone’s views about the plans.

The online version of the questionnaire, together with copies of the full plans and maps can be viewed online at  www.dudley.gov.uk/resident/planning/historic-environment, those without access to a computer are asked to complete the paper questionnaire and return it in the prepaid envelope.

Further information can also be gained by calling the historic environment team on 01384 814136.
