Consultation period extended on A461 scheme
Dudley Council is encouraging people to take part in a Black Country transport scheme consultation, which has been extended by two weeks.
Black Country Transport (BCT) has secured funding for the schemes, which aim to maximise travel options on the A461 corridor, between Dudley, Brierley Hill and Amblecote.
Drop in events, where people can meet a member of the project team, are underway. The next events will take place at Tesco Extra on Birmingham Road on Thursday 5 September and Brierley Hill Library on Thursday 19 September.
Work could include carriageway resurfacing, improved drainage, cycle lanes, footway resurfacing, junction and crossing improvements, bus priority measures, links to public transport stations, more greenery and improved spaces. It is hoped the proposed schemes will also have a positive impact on safety and the environment.
Councillor Damian Corfield, cabinet member for highways and environment, said:
“If you live, work or travel along the A461 corridor then it’s important that we hear from you on this exciting scheme proposal.
“We have extended our consultation by two weeks to enable us to hold an additional drop-in session a Brierley Hill Library but I’d like to remind people that they can also take part online at any time.”
Being delivered in connection with West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), the project crosses over areas of Dudley and Sandwell boroughs and is being funded by the Government’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS).
Residents and businesses who live in the immediate area of Phase 1 proposals have received a letter, further detailing the proposed scheme.
People can find out more and take part in the survey online, where they can also post questions, sign up for the latest updates and see proposals on a map.
Due to the nature of the funding, the schemes have been split into two phases. The current consultation focuses primarily on Phase 1 of the scheme (all interventions between Great Bridge, Dudley and towards Brierley Hill). Further phases propose to extend the scheme from Brierley Hill to Amblecote and these will be consulted on separately in the future.
This part of the consultation has been extended and now closes on 27 September.
