Council announces boost to waste services
People in Dudley borough will be able to benefit from new pop-up tip dates and extended enhanced opening hours of at the Stourbridge recycling site from next month.
Dudley Council has confirmed the Household Waste and Recycling Centre on Birmingham Road will be reopen seven days a week from Tuesday 7 April, running 8am to 6pm from April to September.
Pop-up tips will operate at Lister Road Depot in Dudley and The Northway Depot in Sedgley, from next month.
The pop-up tips will alternate to take place on the second Saturday of the month at Lister Road, with the first one on Saturday 11 April, and the fourth Saturday of the month at The Northway, with the first one on Saturday 25 April.
The council is also exploring other potential locations in the borough for the popular pop-up tips, which give people the chance to recycle common household items.
Items that can be dropped off at the pop-up tips include green waste, wood, scrap metal, small electrical items, general waste, bricks, rubble, plasterboard, household waste, furniture, mattresses and general recycling.
Hazardous waste such as gas cylinders, oils and paints, batteries, and car tyres will not be accepted.
Residents are asked to check availability and dates through MyDudley, all sites are for pre-booked use only.
Councillor Damian Corfield, cabinet member neighbourhoods, said:
“Following the success of previous pop-up tips, which are particularly popular with residents in the north of the borough, we are pleased to be starting these again from April.
“We have also reinstated seven-day week operations at the Stourbridge Recycling Centre tip, as we know people will appreciate the extra slots, particularly at this time of year.
“Residents need to pre-book a slot to use all the sites, and we ask if anyone has reserved a slot they no longer need. to spare a minute to cancel the bookings online. This means either other residents can make use of the slots or reduce waiting times for other tip users.”
