Council flies the flag for armed forces June 23
A special flag is being flown from the roof of Dudley Council House this week, to honour the men and women of the armed forces.
The Armed Forces Flag was raised from the top of the landmark building in Priory Road today (June 19).
The Mayor, Councillor Andrea Goddard, led a “Fly the Flag” civic ceremony at 11am in Coronation Gardens, Dudley, which concluded with the raising of the flag.
It will stay in place for the week leading up to Armed Forces Day, which takes place on Sunday (25 June) in the grounds of Himley Hall and Park.
The free event, run by Dudley Council, takes places from 11am to 5pm and includes a wing walking aerobatic display, All About Swing dance taster sessions, a craft fair, vintage fairground rides, a climbing wall, archery, and Punch & Judy.
There will be a vintage military vehicle display as well as military stands from the Army, RAF and sea cadets and reserve and The Mayor of Dudley will present former and current armed forces personnel with their HM Armed Forces Badges.
Councillor Andrea Goddard, the Mayor of Dudley, said:
It was an honour to lead the ceremony at Castle Gardens today. I’m delighted to see the flag flying over the council house now as we make our final preparations for Armed Forces Day on Sunday.
Flying the Flag symbolises our commitment to supporting the armed forces and allows us to pay our thanks to all those who serve or have served.
Armed Forces is a fantastic free day out for all the family, and I hope people enjoy the wide variety of fun and entertainment on offer.”
