Council holds community reuse and recycling event
Kind-hearted residents are being thanked for donating items that are too good to throw away in a community sharing pilot from Dudley Council.
The local authority held its ‘Too Good to Throw Away’ event at Chawn Hill Church in Pedmore last week.
More than two tonnes of unwanted household items were collected including curtains, bedding, cushions, kitchenware, small electrical items, clothes, food and unused toiletries.
The donations have been taken to Provision House, which is using items to create home starter packages for families and individuals facing times of need.
Councillor Ian Bevan, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said:
“We are so pleased to see the level of support that was donated at the event.
“The team filled five vans with items that will go to new homes, and I would like to thank the many people who have donated.
“I would also like to thank everyone at Chawn Church for supporting the pilot day and for allowing us to use their building at no charge.”
Councillor Dr Rob Clinton, cabinet member for climate change, said:
“I would like to thank the many people who have come forward and passed on their things in this community pilot event.
“Repurposing and reusing is a great way to reduce one’s footprint and we will be looking to roll out the pilot further very soon.”
Councillor Damian Corfield, cabinet member for highways and environment, said:
“Waste care is a huge operation. It adds cost to the taxpayer and by repurposing these items we have saved them from being disposed of at waste disposal sites.”
