Council safeguards green following illegal parking concerns
Dudley Council has moved to safeguard a patch of green land on a borough housing estate, after residents complained it was being ruined by illegal parking.
The grassy area in the middle of Greenhill Road, in Upper Gornal, has regularly been churned up by heavy goods and other vehicles parking on there.
But following a plea from residents, the council has installed wooden bollards and railings to prevent access.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of the council, said:
As someone who grew up in this area, I know how important the ‘greens’ are to residents.
They have long complained on this road particularly of the land being wrecked by illegal parking, and as a listening council we were happy to help.
Damian Corfield, chair of the Oval & Tudor Tenants and Residents’ Association, said:
Illegal parking on this patch of land has been a bone of contention for residents on Greenhill Road for years.
We wanted to see something done about it and I am delighted the council have been able to help, It shows what can be done when everyone works together towards a common goal.
