Council scoops regional award
Dudley Council’s work to maximise energy from waste has earned it a top regional award.
The council was named the winner of the technology and innovation category at the Nachural Summer Business Awards last week.
It won for its work to put in place a new contract to manage its energy from waste plant.
The new contract gives the council greater flexibility in shaping its energy, heat and waste strategy.
The council appointed Urbaser Environmental Ltd to manage the day-to-day running of its Lister Road energy from waste plant, where it disposes its household and trade waste.
As part of the new contract, the council will benefit from being able to sell the energy produced at the plant back to the national grid, which has the potential to generate substantial income for the council.
The council’s new recruitment agency, Connect2Dudley, was also shortlisted in this year’s start-up team category but was pipped to the post by BCIMO, the new company which will oversee the build, launch and operation of the new very light rail and hub to home transport innovation centre.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said:
This is another fantastic achievement for the authority, recognising our work to drive innovation and deliver the best outcomes for the borough and its residents.
Last year we won the excellence in innovation category for our regeneration plans for Dudley town centre. We’re consistently up there with the best in the region and I’m proud of the work we are doing.
Congratulations to all the winners and shortlisted entries at this year’s awards.
