Council tax goes digital
Dudley borough residents can now opt into the convenience of e-billing for their annual council tax statement.
Previously the authority sent paper copies of council tax bills to all residents, but this year it is encouraging residents to sign up for e-billing.
Residents can sign up for e-billing using their MyDudley account and their council tax reference from their last statement.
If people don’t have that to hand, they can answer a couple of quick verification questions.
More than 100,000 people have already signed up for a MyDudley account and can quickly add e-billing to their account with a few simple clicks.
Moving to e-billing is not only convenient for residents but also reduces paper waste as part of the council’s ‘Go Paperless’ strategy to lower the authority’s carbon footprint.
It has the additional benefit of reducing paper, printing and postage costs, making savings that can be reinvested into the services that matter most.
Councillor Phil Atkins, cabinet member for corporate strategy, said:
People are used to the convenience of paying bills and checking their bank accounts online and we wanted to offer this same level of service to our residents when they view their annual council tax statement.
Once it’s set up, it’s one less thing to have to think about and is one less important piece of paper to have to file away.
With e-billing you’ll never have to remember where you’ve put your paperwork because your current council tax statement will always be available in your MyDudley account.
People who sign up for e-billing will receive their council tax bill digitally in March.
