Council to shine a light on baby loss
Dudley Council House will be lit up in pink and blue on Monday 9 October, as the local authority shows its support for Baby Loss Awareness Week.
Running from 9 to 15 October, the international awareness week gives everyone an opportunity to come together to remember and commemorate much-loved and dearly missed babies.
Dudley Council’s public health team has been working with Russells Hall Hospital to organise a special Walk of Hope on Saturday 14 October at Mary Stevens Park at 5pm for families who have experienced baby bereavement or miscarriage.
The Mayor of Dudley will join people across the world by lighting a candle at 7pm local time on Sunday 15 October for the ‘Wave of Light’, which gives those affected by baby bereavement to reflect and remember lost babies.
Councillor Andrea Goodard, Mayor of Dudley said:
“Baby Loss Awareness Week provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the impact of pregnancy and baby bereavement, the importance that bereavement support plays in the ongoing bereavement journey, and of the vital work that is needed to improve pregnancy outcomes and to save babies’ lives.
“On Monday 9 October the Council House will be lit up in pink and blue in support of all who have experienced baby bereavement and there will be a special walk at Mary Stevens Park on Saturday 14 October.
“I will also join thousands of people across the borough to light a candle and take time to reflect as part of the international, including my own personal bereavement ‘Wave of Light’ on Sunday 15 October.”
