Council to show support for Ukraine
A Dudley Council building is to be lit in blue and this week to mark Ukraine Independence Day.
The Council House, located on Priory Road in Dudley town centre, will be lit up on Tuesday and Wednesday evening (23 and 24 August).
Flags will also be flown across the UK as part of the country’s continued support for the people of Ukraine, and to thank the British public for their continued generosity to those most affected by the crisis.
Dudley Council will also fly the emblematic Ukrainian flag on Wednesday, as a symbol of solidarity for the country.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said:
The people of Ukraine will mark their Independence Day on Wednesday 24 August, 31 years since declaring independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
The UK government has been working closely with the Ukrainian Government on their plans to mark this Independence Day - at a time when they are fighting for their freedom.
We are proud to play our part with the lighting up of the council house and flying the Ukrainian flag and I hope it will serve as a reminder to us all that it has now been six months since Russia’s invasion.
