Council up for two awards
Dudley Council has been shortlisted for two regional awards for its work to maximise energy from waste and improve its recruitment process.
The local authority entered two categories in the Nachural Summer Business Awards.
The council’s work to put in place a new contract to manage its energy from waste plant has been shortlisted in the technology and innovation category.
The new contract gives the council greater flexibility in shaping its energy, heat and waste strategy.
The council appointed Urbaser Environmental Ltd to manage the day-to-day running of its Lister Road energy from waste plant, where it disposes its household and trade waste.
As part of the new contract, the council will benefit from being able to sell the energy produced at the plant back to the national grid, which has the potential to generate substantial income for the council.
In addition, the council’s new recruitment agency, Connect2Dudley has been shortlisted in the new start-up team category.
Designed to attract and retain talent, it will provide candidates with an easy to follow application process and gives the local authority the ability to reinvest back into the borough.
The winners of the awards will be announced on Friday July 7.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said:
These nominations are testament to the work we are doing in Dudley to bring about change, be forward-thinking and constantly improve the way we work.
Both of the nominated projects bring significant benefit to the council and services we provide, something I think we should really celebrate as much as we can.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the staff involved for their efforts.
