Councillor reiterates brownfield policy in wake of Triangle interest

A senior councillor has reiterated Dudley Council’s “brownfield led” policy in relation to housing developments after a formal request was submitted to the planning team on a large area of green space in the borough.

The local authority has received a technical request for clarification relating to a site in Swindon Road, Wall Heath, known locally as The Triangle.

The land owner has asked for clarification on whether planning officers believe an Environmental Impact Assessment would be required for a proposal to build more than 500 homes on the site.

Councillor Phil Atkins, cabinet member for development and regulation, said:

“This is a technical request at this stage – no formal planning application has been submitted.

“Because it is not a formal application any comments left on the application, which is in the public domain, cannot be considered.

“I would therefore urge residents not to leave comments at this stage.

“A full consultation exercise will be undertaken allowing residents to express their views if a formal application is submitted

“I want to assure residents that the council is still very much in favour of a brownfield led approach to meet the borough’s housing demand into the future. Any applications submitted will be assessed in line with current policies.”
