Covid grants scheme extended

People in Dudley borough who are self-isolating could still be eligible for up to £500 if they are unable to work after a government scheme was extended

Dudley Council has helped more than 1,700 people through the Test and Trace Support Payments scheme.

The fund supports people on low incomes who cannot work as a result of self-isolating, with a £500 one-off payment.

Now the government has announced plans to extend the scheme to the end of March next year and people are being reminded to apply if they meet the criteria.

Councillor Steve Clark, cabinet member for finance, said:

This is excellent news that the scheme is being extended and will, I am sure, be welcomed by people who are continuing to struggle financially as a result of the pandemic.
I would urge people, if they think they are eligible, to check online and see how it all works. It could be a vital financial helping-hand when you need it most.

People should currently self-isolate if they test positive for coronavirus.

The Test and Trace Support Payment was introduced in response to feedback from local authorities and directors of public health that some residents were struggling to self-isolate as directed due to financial constraints. Individuals can make an application for every period of isolation, via the council’s website.

To be eligible for the Test and Trace Support Payment, people must have been asked to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace because they have tested positive for coronavirus. They must also be employed or self-employed and be unable to work from home and will lose income as a result.

Finally, to be eligible people need to be employed or self-employed and currently receiving Universal Credit, Working Tax Credit, income-based Employment and Support Allowance, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income Support, Housing Benefit or Pension Credit.

The scheme has been extended to March 31, 2022.
