Creative ways for home learning

As parents support children with home schooling due to the lockdown, there may be one useful tool they have overlooked – the Xbox or PlayStation.

Many Dudley borough schools are now using Microsoft Teams to host online lessons or tutorials and the consoles offer an alternative device for attending sessions.

This is just one of the helpful advice available on Dudley Council’s family ebulletin, which is packed full of useful information including support with home schooling, tips on mental and physical wellbeing and updates on the latest pandemic guidance.

Councillor Ruth Buttery, cabinet member for children’s services, said:

On Monday our schools were once again closed to majority of pupils as part of the national lockdown and Dudley Council is supporting shools and parents as they undertake home schooling.
We recognise these are hugely challenging times and for some families limited access to technology can prove a barrier to learning.
Parents may be pleased to know that the family Xbox or PlayStation consoles can be used to access remote learning at the touch of a button for those who do not have alternative technology.
Dudley Council will be issuing free bulletins with hints and tips for parents and carers who can sign up by visiting our website.
Children can also use mobile phones, tablets, PCs and laptops for lessons.

Dudley libraries are offering a click and collect service to give access to books.

People can visit the family information page and are invited to share ideas on social media using the hashtag #DudleyStaysHome
