Dementia event dubbed a huge success

A public event held to help shape the future of dementia services in the borough has been dubbed a huge success.

More than 100 people living with dementia, carers and other people affected by the disease turned out to Living with Dementia in Dudley: Building Our Future Together events at DY1 in Dudley town centre last week.

It followed a public appeal by Dudley Council for people to come forward and share their thoughts on how services could be improved in the future.

They were joined by the council’s cabinet member for adult social care, Councillor Andrea Goddard, and the Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Pete Lee. The authority’s chief executive Balvinder Heran and interim director for adult social care, Emma Matthews, were also in attendance.

Councillor Pete Lee, the Mayor of Dudley, said:

“The event was a huge success in giving people affected by dementia a voice, and I was honoured to attend and play a small part in that.

“It was a safe and welcoming space for people to share their stories, their journeys and their hopes.

“The energy and enthusiasm to work together and collaborate really shone through.

“Everyone deserves to live well, and it will help us together shape a more compassionate future for dementia support in our borough.”
