Discussions continue for town centre site
Dudley Council’s cabinet is set to review developments for a proposed multi-million-pound private investment in Dudley town centre when it meets next week.
Dudley Council recently consulted with borough residents over some its proposals for the Portersfield site, which could result in a significant housing development near to the town’s bus station.
More than 450 people took part in the questionnaire, with an overwhelming number of participants supporting the council’s plans to ensure improved walking and cycling routes are included in the development.
The plans complement a huge programme of regeneration work in the town centre including the Metro Wednesbury to Brierley Hill line, linking Dudley to the rail network, and the Dudley Transport Interchange.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said:
“We have an incredible programme of regeneration works taking place in Dudley town centre, where we are seeing millions of pounds of investment.
“This brownfield site is a very important part of our vision, and following the demolition of the former Cavendish House, we hope to see the creation of hundreds of new homes and further investment in the local economy in the near future.
“We were very pleased to see the overwhelming support from borough residents regarding walk and cycle routes in our consultation. This will play a vital role in encouraging people into the town.”
