Drop-in events planned for transport schemes

People can attend drop-in events as part of a Black Country consultation regarding proposed transport schemes.

Black Country Transport (BCT) has secured funding for the schemes, which aim to maximise travel options on the A461 corridor, between Dudley, Brierley Hill and Amblecote.

There will be three events over the coming weeks at locations across the project area, where a member of the project team, with knowledge of the entire scheme, will be on hand to answer questions and receive feedback on the proposals.

People can attend at Coneygree Community Centre on Sedgley Road on Thursday 29 August, Churchill Shopping Centre in Dudley on Monday 2 September and Tesco Extra on Birmingham Road on Thursday 5 September.

Being delivered in connection with West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), the project crosses over areas of Dudley and Sandwell boroughs and is being funded by the Government’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS).

Work could include carriageway resurfacing, improved drainage, cycle lanes, footway resurfacing, junction and crossing improvements, bus priority measures, links to public transport stations, more greenery and improved spaces. It is hoped the proposed schemes will also have a positive impact on safety and the environment.

Councillor Damian Corfield, cabinet member for highways and environment, said:

“We are hopeful that these improvements will provide more options for everyone so if you live or travel in the area, regardless of how you travel, we want to hear from you.

“This project ties into schemes across the wider Black Country transport network and will link into the planned Metro extension.

“If you want to know more please come along to one of these drop-in sessions or take a look at the information that’s available online.”

Residents and businesses who live in the immediate area of the scheme have received a letter, further detailing the proposed scheme.

People can find out more and take part in the survey online, where they can also post questions and sign up for the latest updates. The consultation closes on 13 September.
