Dudley Council prepares for winter

Dudley Council is assuring people that winter services will continue despite the pandemic and residents can keep up to date with the latest information on gritting and other council services online.

Dudley Council’s Weather Watch web page is packed full of key information including gritting runs and routes, grit bin locations and details of the teams, who work round the clock to help keep the roads moving during inclement weather.

School closures, bin collections and other council services affected by the weather are featured, as well as advice on keeping well and warm during the winter.

People can view the page at www.dudley.gov.uk/weatherwatch where they can also sign up for the council’s free snow watch bulletin. The bulletin will give people the chance to find out the latest details during spells of snow and heavy ice.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for public realm, said:

As always, we are asking everyone to drive and travel carefully, plan journeys ahead and stay safe this winter.
The pandemic means our crews will have to adjust some of the ways they work but they will continue to do all they can to keep the borough moving and keep people safe on our roads.
During inclement weather, information can all be found on our Weather Watch page and I would encourage people to sign up for the free bulletin to get all the latest news and updates.

The council has a team of 65 people who work in shifts around the clock to keep almost 300 miles of roads clear during the cold weather. The council has stockpiled 6,500 tonnes of grit, which will last throughout the winter period.

Updates will be posted on the council’s @dudleymbc twitter feed by following #WMGrit, which also includes gritting updates from neighbouring Black Country authorities.

Updates are also posted on the council’s Dudley borough Facebook page, throughout the winter weather. People can ‘like’ the page to get the latest on school closures and other weather related information throughout the day.
