Dudley Council to join National Day of Reflection

Dudley Council’s chief executive is encouraging people to support a National Day of Reflection tomorrow (23 March) - 12 months to the day when the country went into its first national lockdown due to Covid-19.

The Marie Curie online event invites organisations and the public to take part in a minute’s silence at noon, to mark the loss of those who have tragically died due to the pandemic.

People living in Dudley borough can sign a local book of condolence, to help borough residents remember loved ones, online at www.mayorofdudley.org.uk/condolence

Dudley Council also held a virtual candle lit vigil on Sunday. The pre-recorded service was led by Reverend James Treasure, vicar at Top Church in Dudley, and has been released on Dudley Council’s Facebook and Twitter channels.

Kevin O’Keefe, chief executive at Dudley Council, said:

This has been a devastating 12 months for many people in our borough and yesterday’s candle lit vigil was our way of marking how Covid-19 has affected our borough, our communities and our families.
Tragically many people have lost their dearly loved friends, family members and colleagues from Covid-19 and I would urge everyone in Dudley to join us in this national minute of silence tomorrow.
The council has also launched an online book of condolence to give borough residents the chance to write a public message to remember loved ones they have lost, to ensure their memories and legacies live on.

Dudley Council’s virtual vigil was attended by several senior Dudley Council figures and included a reading from West Midlands Deputy Lieutenant Richard Boot as well as footage of key workers lighting candles to mark the occasion.
