Dudley Council wins homebuilder of the year

Dudley Council has scooped a national award to be named homebuilder of the year at this year’s UK housing awards.

The award recognises the success of one of the council’s most recent new build council home developments, which saw a piece of disused land off the Broadway in Stourbridge transformed into a bungalow complex.

The council has been building new council homes across the borough for a number of years to add to its housing stock and to create homes that will provide quality and affordable accommodation for years to come.

The 10-property development, shortlisted as part of the award, is known as Maybank Fields and includes a range of one, two and three bedroom bungalows, all built with the needs of residents in mind.

Councillor Laura Taylor-Childs, cabinet member for housing and community services, said:

“I am over the moon that the council has been recognised as homebuilder of the year. I am incredibly proud of all of those who worked on this project, this award really does highlight that our teams are always thinking about the needs of our tenants above all else, and that we are providing homes fit for the 21st Century.

“A lot of work goes into making these developments a reality, from finding the right plot of land, to designing homes that we know people need and then building them to an excellent standard as demonstrated at Maybank Fields.

“We faced some stiff competition from organisations up and down the country who were also shortlisted, but this was our time to stand out and pick up the top award.

“It doesn’t end here; we’ve got lots of other projects on the go and we remain committed to building more council homes of award-winning standard.”

Dudley Council won homebuilder of the year in the category for organisations with 16,000 homes or more.
