Dudley Mayor to attend vigil
The Mayor of Dudley will take part in a vigil outside Dudley Council house today, calling for an end to violence and domestic abuse against women and girls.
Sedgley Townswomen Guild is organising the Council House vigil at 4.30pm today (25 November), to mark Orange the World campaign.
Orange the World is 16 days of activism against Gender-Based Violence, an annual campaign that aims to end violence and domestic abuse against women and girls.
Every year, Dudley’s community safety partnership ‘Safe & Sound’ joins with other local authorities in the area to support the campaign and highlight the different forms domestic abuse can take.
Dudley Council has confirmed it will light up the council House in orange to mark the day. Other building in the borough will also be lit up including Dudley Zoo, Red House Glass Cone, Merry Hill, Russells Hall Hospital, Himley Hall and Stourbridge Glass Museum.
Councillor Hilary Bills, Mayor of Dudley, said:
“We must all take a stand against gender-based violence, which sadly still happens in communities, homes, public spaces, schools and places of work.
“Working with our partners and through our Safe & Sound partnership, Dudley Council is calling for an end to violence against women and girls in all its forms.
“Today I will join other people at a special vigil to mark the first day of the campaign at Dudley Council House, which we will light up in orange.”
