Dudley pop-up tip hits century milestone after extra date

The pop-up tip in Dudley borough continues to prove popular among residents with more than 100 tonnes of waste dropped off at the site in the past two months.

Around 107 tonnes of waste has been disposed of at the facility on Lister Road since it switched to opening twice a month at the start of April.

This total includes 31.5 tonnes of wood, 20.6 tonnes of bricks and rubble, and 12.1 tonnes of mattresses and other furniture.

1,989 bookings have been made at the site since April, with 1,253 places (63%) reserved by residents from the north of the borough.

The ward with the most users of the pop-up tip in this period is St Thomas’s, where 486 spots were booked over the most recent five dates (1 April, 15 April, 6 May, 20 May and 3 June).

Councillor Damian Corfield, cabinet member for highways and environmental services, said:
We’ve had a fantastic response to the pop-up tip from residents since we introduced an extra date each month. More than 400 bookings have been made for each of the last five dates since the start of April.
With this high demand for the site, it’s important that people who have booked appointments but no longer need them spare a minute to cancel their bookings online. This improves capacity and reduces wait times for other tip users.
Councillor Dr Rob Clinton, cabinet member for climate change, said:
Recycling as much waste as we can at the pop-up tip helps us to get closer to our overall goal of reaching Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions in Dudley.
I hope residents will continue to use this valuable facility and keep on doing their part to make our borough cleaner and greener.
The pop-up tip’s next opening date is Saturday 17 June. Slots must be booked in advance using the quick and easy online booking system.

Items that can be dropped off at the site include green waste, wood, scrap metal, small electrical items, residual waste, bricks, rubble, plasterboard, household waste, general recycling, mattresses and furniture.

Tyres, oils, liquids, car batteries, gas cylinders and hazardous waste cannot be accepted. No vans or cars with trailers are permitted at the site.

Appointments at the pop-up tip can be cancelled by completing the cancellation form on the council website, which is also linked in the booking confirmation email.
