Solar panels being carried

Energy smart show home opening doors

Dudley Council is holding two open events to showcase how it is working with partners to make its homes more energy efficient and sustainable.

People can visit a retrofitted council home in Brockmoor, complete with air source heat pump, solar panels and specialist insulation, on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 February.

The local authority is the first in the region to secure funding for an innovative carbon busting project to deliver the Community BEES (Brockmoor Energy & Environment Scheme) project.

The project is looking at retrofitting homes with energy efficient technology and making green spaces, public buildings and transport links more sustainable.

During the open weekend, which is in conjunction with Green Doors, people will be able to come and experience the retrofitted home at 69 Norwood Road.

There will be chance to learn more about some of the technologies and adaptations that have been made and to find out more about the Community BEES project and its achievements so far.

Funded by West Midlands Combined Authority, the project is being delivered by Dudley Council working with Equans, Keele University, Connecting Places Catapult, and Carnego.

Councillor Ian Bevan, cabinet member for housing and communities, said:

“We have set an ambition of being a Net Zero council by 2030 and a NetZero borough by 2045.

“The Net Zero Neighbourhoods projects are creating a blueprint for how homes can be made more energy efficient in the future, playing a huge role in helping to minimise the way our homes will impact the climate in the future.

People need to pre-book a space for the open days by visiting the West Midlands Green Doors website
