Events taking place for Learning Disability Week

Dudley Council is supporting a range of events taking place this month for Learning Disability Week.

Organised by Dudley Voices for Choice, the activities will run from 16 to 20 June at various locations across the borough.

On Tuesday 17 June, Dudley Council will hold an open day at Queen’s Cross Network, with free activities running between 11am and 2pm. These activities are free of charge, but people are asked to prebook sessions and parking spaces by calling Michelle on 07717 700879 before 10 June.

Other events planned include a daytime disco, bowling and lunch, a Pride disco, a talent show, gardening, golfing, art, cooking and much more.

Sarah Offley, Chief Officer for Dudley Voices for Choice, said:

“Dudley Voices for Choice is so proud to be working with partner agencies to host the best Learning Disability Week yet.

“We listened to the local community about how they wanted to celebrate Learning Disability Week and the feedback was clear, people wanted the opportunity to connect with old friends, make new ones and to have the most fun possible.

“People also wanted the opportunity to raise awareness in the local community about what it is like to live with a learning disability in Dudley, so we are leading with our campaign on social media ‘#whatyousaying’ and I hope everyone will get involved.”

Councillor Andrea Goddard, cabinet member for adult social care, added:

“Dudley Voices for Choices is a fantastic organisation, working with those with learning disabilities, that always go above and beyond and I would like to personally thank them for all their hard work organising these wonderful activities for Learning Disability Week.

“Everyone deserves to live well, which is why Dudley Council is pleased to be supporting the sessions. I would encourage anyone who wants to find out more about the support services available in Dudley borough to head to Queens Cross Network’s Open Day on Tuesday 17 June.”
