Former Mayor to be honoured for service to the community
A former Mayor of Dudley is to be honoured for her service to the community.
A meeting of tonight's full council agreed to make Margaret Aston an honorary Alderwoman for her “outstanding work.”
The long-serving former councillor represented the Sedgley ward from 1995 to 1999 and then from 2000 to 2024 the Castle and Priory ward.
After a year serving as deputy mayor, she was Mayor of Dudley in 2014-15 when, as first citizen, she raised more than £33,000 for her chosen charities – Action Heart and Guide Dogs.
Councillor Pete Lee, Mayor of Dudley, said:
“Margaret served her community as a councillor for almost 30 years and we’re proud to recognise her outstanding work by awarding her Honorary Alderwoman status.
“She has dedicated so much of her life to serving the community and I’m delighted we are able to thank her and honour her with this prestigious title.”
