Free events and support on offer for National Carers Week

Unpaid and informal carers in Dudley borough can enjoy a range of free events and access support as part of this year’s National Carers Week.

The activities on offer at the Dudley Carers Hub this week include wellbeing and mindfulness sessions, arts and crafts, a trip to Trentham Gardens, and NHS health checks.

The Dudley Council-run hub has also created a series of podcasts that highlight the crucial roles of carers in the borough.

Episodes of the podcast are running throughout the week on Black Country Radio Extra.

Councillor Natalie Neale, cabinet member for adult social care, said:

At some point in our lives, we’re all likely to look after someone who becomes ill, frail, or disabled. If you’re not able to get the right support, caring for a relative or friend can become an even tougher task.
For many people, one of the biggest barriers to getting that support is actually recognising themselves as a carer.
This year’s National Carers Week is all about helping people to identify the help they give to relatives or friends with daily tasks as care, as well as raising awareness of carers’ needs.
Carers in our borough provide such incredible support to their loved ones and I hope that our events this week will be a great source of information, understanding and respite for them.

Running from Monday 5 until Sunday 11 June, National Carers Week recognises the contributions that people who care for their friends and relatives make to communities across the UK.

More information on National Carers Week 2023 and the activities taking place across the borough, as well as advice and practical support for unpaid carers, can be found on the Dudley Council website.
