£300,000 for borough to bloom
Dudley Council is to spend £300,000 on bulbs, planters and floral displays over the coming three years.
The authority will create a number of new pictorial meadows next year, with the attractive wild grass and flower areas set to support local wildlife.
In the following years the money will be used to spruce up towns, parks and local centres across the borough. There will be new hanging baskets and some shrub beds will be replaced or rejuvenated.
The council also pledges to work with the many strong volunteer-led groups including Friends groups and those taking part in the ‘In-Bloom’ displays.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for public realm, said:
We’re delighted and proud to be investing in planting across the borough to improve the attractiveness of our local centres, towns and parks for residents and visitors.
The work will attract and support wildlife, including birds, bees and butterflies, and will play a part in the fight against climate change.
We will also be continuing to support our voluntary groups who do so much amazing work in our towns, parks and green spaces.
