£50,000 improvement works on Cradley children’s play area

Nearly £50,000 is to be spent on improvements to a children’s play area in Cradley.

External funding has been secured for the project at Bernard Oakley Memorial Gardens by Dudley Council and the park’s Friends group.

The improvements will include a new slide and swings and have a woodland theme, with springy animals and a rope crossing challenge.

Councillor Damian Corfield, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said:

“We have been working for the past 18 months with the Friends Group of Bernard Oakley Memorial Gardens on a project to improve the play area at the gardens.

“That work included a number of consultation exercises which asked the local community what improvements and facilities they would like to see within the play area.

“I am delighted the hard work has now come to fruition.

“A contractor has been appointed and work is set to start imminently with a view to completion - weather permitting - by the summer."

The £45,000 funding has been secured from Enovert Community Trust, an environmental body which supports community projects. The remaining £4,685 will be covered by The Friends of Bernard Oakley Memorial Gardens group. Play company Wicksteed Leisure will be carrying out the work.
