carers week

Get support and advice during carers week

Events will be taking place across the borough next week to mark National Carers Week.

Running from June 9 to 15, the national campaign aims to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families.

It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and find support.

To mark the week, Dudley Council is holding a number of events.

Throughout the week, Dudley Carers Hub, will be highlighting the support they offer unpaid carers of all ages living in the borough.

This includes advice on respite services, specialist training courses for carers, information on financial and legal rights, help with arranging a carers assessment, a specialist Dudley Young Carers Service and support with getting out and about, including social groups and carers groups.

There are two carer hubs - Brett Young Centre in Halesowen, open 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday and Queens Cross Carers Hub, Queens Cross Network, Dudley, open by appointment, Monday to Friday. To book an appointment call 01384 818723 or email dudleycarershub@dudley.gov.uk

Staff will also be out and about manning ‘Say Hello’ benches between 11am and 2pm at Hagley St, Halesowen, on Monday (6), Foster St, Stourbridge on Tuesday (10) and Dudley St, Sedgley on Thursday (12) for carers to pop along, have a chat and find out about the help and support on offer.

They will also be at Russells Hall Hospital's information hub (in the foyer) on Monday (9) from 9.30am to 3pm.

Councillor Paul Bradley, deputy leader of the council, said:

“The week shines a light on the challenges faced by unpaid carers as well as recognising the incredible contribution they make to families and local communities.

“We know there are many people, of all ages, who have caring responsibilities for a parent, child, partner, relative, neighbour or friend, but may not identify as a carer, so we want to raise awareness of the support available.

“Dudley Carers Hub offers a wealth of advice, information and support so we hope people will come to one of our events during the week to find out more.”
