Go travel for bonus points in Dudley borough’s beat the street challenge this week

Players in the Beat the Street Dudley game can clock up double points on Beat Boxes around traditional commuting hours.

Ditch the car and walk, cycle or roll to school or work and gain double points from 7am - 9am and 3pm - 6pm up to and including Tuesday 19 July.

There are also two fun events this weekend. On Saturday 16 July at Long Lane Library there’s a Garden Party from 12pm-3pm. A mobile beat box will be present offering lucky tap prizes.
This free, family friendly event will celebrate the Jubilee and the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. There will be kids crafts, garden party games, raffles and refreshments. Dr Bike will also be carrying out free bike checks.

Also on Saturday 16 July it’s Black Country Multicultural Day on Stone Street Square in Dudley from 11am-4pm. The nearest beat box (no.69) on Stone Street Square will have double points.
The event is in association with the Black Country Festival. Music and will feature dance from different backgrounds celebrating the cultural diversity of the Black Country.

Participants in Beat the Street Dudley have already racked up 63,300 miles and nearly 24,000 people have signed up to take part. It’s not too late to get involved in the free physical activity game that encourages players of all ages to get active and to ditch the car, and walk, scoot, wheel, cycle or run instead. Collect a card and map from one of the distribution points listed on the www.beatthestreet.me/dudley website, join a team and start playing.

There are total and average points leaderboards for schools, community teams and charities with vouchers for the teams that travel the furthest.

Taking place until 10th August, Beat the Street is transforming Dudley borough into a real-life game with players tapping special sensors called Beat Boxes dotted across the town. These dates coincide with the Commonwealth Games period, and are part of the celebration of the Games coming to the West Midlands.

Beat the Street Dudley has been commissioned by Dudley Council and the Canal and River Trust with support from the National Lottery via Sport England. It is being delivered by Intelligent Health.

Councillor Ian Bevan, cabinet member for public health and wellbeing, said:
We are really enjoying seeing people getting out and playing the game. It’s great to see people of all ages making the most of the game while it’s here to help get exercising safely in green spaces with friends and family.
