Go Wild for Beat the Street Dudley
Participants in the Beat the Street Dudley game are invited to Go Wild this week with double points at some of the borough’s parks, waterways and green spaces.
There are events tied in with the week too including on 23 July a Let’s fish session from 9.30am-4.00pm at Bumble Hole with a mobile beat box on site for visitors to earn double points. Visitors can learn to fish with the Canal and River Trust's team of professionally qualified and licensed angling coaches. All bait, equipment, permits and licence are provided. People need to book in and turn up on time on the day. These one-hour sessions are available to all adults and for children aged from six years old and upwards who are interested in trying out a potential new hobby.
From 22-24 July there’s a Tough Enough to Play at Dudley Kingswinford RFC. People can earn double points by visiting the nearest beat box no.92 on Sat 23 July between 11.00am and 3.00pm. This family friendly day out, will showcase local and national mental health organisations. Food and live music all day, four charity rugby matches throughout the weekend. Street food vendors and child friendly fun fair. Tickets can be purchased online.
On 24 July it’s Beattie’s Baton Relay from 1pm-7pm. Look out for specially decorated beat boxes close to the Queen's Baton Relay route. Tap your cards and send in a selfie with a decorated beat box for a chance to get a lucky tap prize. Here are all the beat boxes with lucky tap prizes: no. 256, 229, 146, 51, 63, 69, 142 and 124.
Already, more than 24,500 people have signed up to the real-life interactive physical activity game and have together walked, cycled and rolled nearly 73,500 miles.
There are total and average points leaderboards for school, community, workplace teams and individuals with prizes for sports or book vouchers for the teams that top the tables at the end of the six-week competition.
Beat the Street Dudley has been commissioned by Dudley Council and the Canal and River Trust with support from the National Lottery via Sport England. It is being delivered by Intelligent Health.
Councillor Ian Bevan, cabinet member for public health and wellbeing, said:
We’re delighted to support the Beat the Street programme and it’s great to see people out exercising and exploring new areas. It’s amazing how we tend to stick to the same tried and tested routes and how the game has opened up the idea of exploring the town on foot, which reveals new areas and parks you might not have known about, even if you’ve lived here for years.
Anyone of any age is invited to take part in the free game and you can still get involved for the remaining weeks. Just pick up a card from one of the distribution points listed at www.beatthestreet.me/dudley, register your card, join a team and get playing!
