Tiled House-2

Good Care Month

The lead for adult social care at Dudley Council met staff and service users at a care facility as part of national Good Care Month.

Councillor Matt Rogers, cabinet member for adult social care, toured Tiled House reablement and intermediate car facility in Pensnett today (Thurs).

He chatted to some of the 100 care and support staff based at the facility.

Good Care Month is about celebrating the work care and support staff do every day including the challenges and rewards of the profession.

Councillor Matt Rogers, cabinet member for adult social care, said:

We are incredibly proud of the work of our care staff all year round but awareness months like Good Care Month give us the opportunity to shine a spotlight on the incredible things they do. I really enjoyed meeting the staff at Tiled House and chat to them about their work. The role has some challenges for sure, but the rewards in being able to make a difference to people’s lives is incredibly inspiring. I’m thrilled I got the chance to speak to some of them and the people they care for and encourage anyone thinking of a career in the care profession to get in touch.

Terina Pearson, care manager, led the tour around Tiled House and chatted about her 35-year-long career in the sector. She has held many roles in care including support worker and senior care officer before making it to care manager 12 months ago.

Terina Pearson added:

It is a really flexible career with opportunity of progression and gives you a chance to make a difference to people’s lives when they need it. You can go home and know someone’s health and wellbeing is being managed because of you and that you have supported them in their independence and played a part in their achievements. Throughout the whole team at Tiled House we help service users to achieve their goals and outcomes, and that’s very rewarding and satisfying. But it’s not just the people in Tiled House, it’s the families too and the interaction with them. I love what I do and get a lot of reward from it even though there are times when it can be very challenging.

The campaign also raises the profile of the social care sector and promotes the career opportunities and progression available to those who choose a career in social care.

There are around 250 care staff employed by the council with thousands more commissioned by the authority and there are many paths and opportunities careers can take as it progresses.
