Help with employment and training

Dudley Council is offering support for adults of all ages looking to develop their employability skills.

The UKSPF People & Skills programme is providing thousands of opportunities for individuals to gain a brighter future through upskilling and/or gaining employment.

It’s designed to support people who are economically inactive, meaning those who are without work and not in receipt of benefits, or those out of work but in receipt of certain health-related benefits. It’s for adults aged 19 right up to retirement.

Support available includes customised training, 1-2-1 support, coaching, mentoring, development opportunities, apprenticeships and also includes self-employment guidance.

Through specialised services to provide the best employability prospects for the future, from coaching or counselling through to managed work placements, the UKSPF People & Skills programme seeks to benefit individuals as well as the wider community.

Councillor Paul Bradley, cabinet member for communities, economic delivery and climate change said:

“The UKSPF People & Skills programme is allowing us to provide bespoke
employment support to adults of all ages and skill levels.

“If you are a stay-at-home parent, out of education, looking to set up as self-employed, wondering where to start your career or an unemployed adult looking to improve your skills, we can help you.

“This funded programme runs until March 2025 so I’d encourage people to make the most of this opportunity.”

Notes to editors

Economically inactive individuals are those not in work and not actively seeking work (unlike unemployed individuals who are actively seeking work). Not all economically inactive individuals claim benefits. For those that do, this would include those claiming either “legacy” benefits or those within specific conditionality regimes in Universal Credit (UC). The former here includes Employment Support Allowance (ESA), Incapacity Benefit (IB) and Income Support (IS). The latter here includes claimants within the Preparation Requirement or Work Focused Interview Requirement conditionality regimes (or equivalent for all of the above). There is no length of time on inactivity required.
