Horticulture apprentices get the green light
Dudley Council’s cabinet member for environment is delighted that four employees have completed an award in their horticulture apprenticeships.
The local authority runs the apprenticeship scheme internally, giving the young adults the opportunity to gain new skills and qualifications.
The four apprentices joined the local authority in 2018. They have gained a level two award in Horticulture Operative apprenticeship and are now working toward their level three.
During their time in training, the four have learned on the job and developed skills by working alongside experienced members of the council’s green care team.
All training has been managed in house, meaning the council has delivered it in its entirety with joint working between green care and the skills, employment and adult learning team.
As the young adults move up to level three on their training programme, three new level two apprentices are also joining the team to start their learning journey.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environmental, highways and street services, said:
I would like to congratulate our four employees in gaining this award and the necessary skills and experience to become an important part of our green care team.
As a local authority that cares about our residents, we pride ourselves in shaping our own homegrown talent and our investment will not only benefit these employees but also everyone in Dudley borough.
We now look forward to welcoming our three new starters who will also embark on this exciting learning journey.
