International Walk to School Month 2021

This year, organisers ‘Living Streets’ are asking children and young people to consider the contribution that traffic pollution makes to climate change and the effects it has on wildlife and natural habitats around the world.

Walking to school can help reduce carbon emissions, supporting natural habitats and animals across the globe.

Individual families and schools can enter the national competition to win vouchers for their family or school. All people need to do is choose an animal or natural habitat which is endangered due to climate change and share on social media what they have chosen and why. Pictures, drawings and videos are all welcome, use the #WalkForTheWorld hashtag and tag in organisers @LivingStreets Biking and scooting to school is also encouraged. 

Dudley Council’s own road safety team offers education packages and training and is always available for advice, beyond International Walk to School Week. The team also provides bikeability training for all ages.

International Walk to School month is a great reminder of the small things we can all do to help reduce our impact on the environment and cut our carbon emissions.

The Living Streets campaign and competition is a fun and healthy way to celebrate the actions children and families are taking to help make a difference, but remember you can do this all year round and really help to cut your carbon footprint.

Our road safety team is always available to offer advice and training on how to get out and about on foot or your bike safely.
